A fashion blog that isn't scared of being unabashedly pink and girly

Name: Kristina Medhus
Blog: Pretty Shiny Sparkly
Age: 25
Location: Texas
Occupation: Blogger/Medical Student

When did you first start your blog? How has it changed since then?

Pretty Shiny Sparkly in November of 2009, so I'm not sure what that is in blog-years (8? 53?). It's been such a blast each and every day. Other than its shift from relative anonymity to the following it has today, the only thing that has changed much since its launch is the design. I was a web designer (and photographer) in another life, so one of the curses of that is never being satisfied with your layout, and having the unfortunate ability to change it at will. But I'm very happy with where it is now - it's unabashedly pink & girly. It's what I was going for from Day 1, and I'm happy that it has always remained true to that.

How would you describe your individual blog posts, and how would you describe your blog as whole?

I put a lot of time & effort into my posts. I would say my posts are thought-out, with a helping of prose, and are never without images. I use Photoshop to create fun inspiration boards, or for use in my Monthly Favorites series, in which I round-up the things I couldn't live without the previous month. I think imagery is so important so I am always sure to have some sort of eye candy.

On a whole, Pretty Shiny Sparkly is an unapologetically girly haven. I'm like a crow - drawn to sparkly, shiny things. My blog covers fashion and personal style, but is not limited to that. In the past I've even posted about macarons, pink HD camcorders, and what I have dubbed the "fashionista computer."

What fashion sites and blogs do you read daily?

I like to visit Vogue Daily, Cupcakes and Cashmere, What I Wore, and Fashion Gone Rogue on a daily basis, but I'll visit a number of the sites on my blogroll whenever I get the chance. I love blogsurfing, and commenting!

How would you describe your personal style?

I tend to have a style on par with Sienna Miller's or Rachel Bilson's, in that nothing looks overly "done up" or too put-together, and also how they tend to use masculine pieces to accentuate their femininity. For example, I love a good pair of Frye boots, and I'm addicted to mens' watches - I won't even wear womens' watches anymore. I just love how an oversize watch makes the wrist look daintier. I also like to have one thing be used in an unusual way, such as a long strand of pearls as a belt around my waist, or hot pink heels with an otherwise neutral outfit. Making the outfit my own is important. I also love a good bargain.

Who are your favorite labels and designers?

Not that I can afford any of them, but I currently covet anything from Miu Miu, Proenza Schouler, Diane von Furstenberg, Mulberry, Hermes, & Herve Leger. I love Hudson jeans and anything Marc Jacobs touches.

What would you never leave your house without?

Mascara, and my iPhone. One because I'll look like a 12-year-old without it, and the other because I will panic if I don't feel "connected". It's a curse having everything at your fingertips, but I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Where do you want to doing in five years?

Expand my blog, balancing my career & my love of fashion, attending fashion shows, and forging relationships with designers who, in my dream world, would seek my advice on what to tweak in a design to retain a feminine aesthetic. But that last one's a bit of a fantasy of mine.

I wear this rich black eyeliner every day. The pen has a great point to it and at night I just draw it on extra thick for a dramatic looking eye.
