Mark Garrison Dishes his Anti-Frizz Summer Hair Tips

A few days ago, I had my hair cut by Mark Garrison at his namesake salon on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. A true master, Garrison cuts with unparalleled ease and precision, and his cut left my hair, via a few soft layers, with more movement than I thought possible.

While at his salon, I took the opportunity to get the scoop on what Garrison suggests for taming summer frizz. I’ve tried everything from leave-ins and creams to an endless assortment of oils, so I was curious as to what the North Carolina native could offer as a solution to the major hair concern for most women once the hot, sticky, warm weather hits.

Garrison’s salon is a gorgeous multi-level space known internationally for employing some of the world’s top stylists and colorists.

Having spent over 30 years in the industry, Garrison honed his skills working under Yosh in San Francisco, Jean Louis David in Paris, and Frederic Fekkai in New York.

He has styled the hair of everyone from Scarlett Johansson, Marisa Tomei, Courtney Love, Jerry Seinfeld, Hugh Jackman, and Sandra Bullock to a slew of ultra-Orthodox, well-to-do Jewish women who have to cover their hair, and look to Garrison for his expert skills at clipping and styling their wigs.

Garrison told me that to control frizz, it’s important to keep your layers long with minimal texture, and that those with serious frizz issues should consider Brazilian Keratin Straightening.

The hair treatment can be performed on any hair type (including previously chemically treated hair), and contains no harsh chemicals. It’s a non-permanent treatment that is performed approximately every three months, and ensures virtually frizz-free hair.

If you live in the New York City area, I highly recommend stopping into the Mark Garrison salon and speaking to one of the experts who can walk you through a hair care routine best suited to your hair type and concerns.
