Beauty How-To: Get this Season’s Golden Glow

Gold might be a classic summer hue, but the holidays are a great time to show a little sparkle. Forget the silver bells, this season it’s all about gold.

The Eye Shadow

A golden eye shadow can work on anybody’s skin-tone, but here’s a rule of thumb: the darker your skin, the darker the color; the lighter your skin, the lighter the color.

MAC’s Goldmine eye shadow
runs slightly orange over yellow, making it ideal for darker complexions. Its deliciously frosty tint makes it perfect for a holiday or New Year’s bash.

For those with lighter complexions, try Lancome’s Ellipse Spectacular Effects Eye Shadow in Infra Gold.  It has a shimmery hue as well, but won’t be as shocking on fairer skin.

No matter your coloring, add plenty of mascara to the upper and lower lashes. Without it, lashes will get lost in the eye shadow.

The Multi-Tasker

Benefit’s Gilded Highlighting Pencil (Tangerine Gold Highlighter) is a multi-use hilighting pencil that works on anyone—and it glides on like a dream!

It adds subtle shimmer to lips, brow bones, eyes and just about anywhere else you’d like a little sparkle. The glittery pencil captures light, giving your skin a luminous and dewy appearance. It also can work as an eye shadow, eye liner, and even as lip color to add a metallic sheen to your usual lipstick.

We say yes all the way!

The Bronzer

Traditionally, golden-hued colors look best on darker skin, so why not add a little bronze to your sun-deprived winter skin? We love Benefit’s Hoola bronzing powder. It’s ultra-realistic tan looks natural on any skin—almost like you’re not wearing any makeup.

For a longer-lasting glow, try Laura Mercier’s Bronzing Gel. You’ll look warm and sun-kissed after applying this lightweight, quick-blending gel—and you’ll be good to go for days.

The Lip Gloss

No gold-toned makeup look is complete without a luscious gold-tinted lip gloss. (Note: We said tinted. You don’t want to look like a statue!) We favor gold glosses over lipsticks because of their natural, dewy look.  Lipsticks don’t go on as smoothly, and can wind up looking too matte against the rest of your shimmery look.

Try MAC Lustreglass Lip Gloss in Instant Gold alone or over your favorite lipstick. It adds just a tint of gold and the shine is super sexy.

Calvin Klein Delicious Pout Flavored Lip Gloss in Pastel Gold has almost a hint of pink in its color.  It also contains vitamins E & C to help moisturize lips (perfect for after a holiday party).
