After starting her blog Into The Gloss in September 2010, Emily Weiss has become a star in the beauty blog industry, and a standout as a new girl to watch. Focusing on beauty within the fashion industry, Into The Gloss features interviews with stylists, magazine editors, makeup artists, models and up-and-comers, and provides an exclusive peek into the beauty vanities of some of the industry’s biggest players. In addition to starting up a blog that has received applause from the blogosphere, Emily is also an assistant at Vogue, and has a super chic wardrobe to prove it. We love her elegant and cool street style, and caught up for a quick chat to find out what makes her tick.
The Fashion Spot: What is your favorite store in NYC?
Emily Weiss: Barneys.
TFS: Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
EW: Everywhere! On the street, at shows, on shoots, chatting with people about their favorite products; trolling beauty departments and stores like Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Space NK.
TFS: What does your perfect Saturday entail?
EW: Well, I suppose it would entail sleeping in, brunch at The Standard complete with a Bloody Mary, a manicure and pedicure with friends, a big dinner, and SNL. But the reality is, I’m usually working!
TFS: If you could live with only one beauty product, what would it be?
EW: Lip balm.
TFS: What inspired you to start your blog, Into the Gloss?
EW: A leisurely August (2010)…somehow got me thinking that there weren’t any online platforms that addressed beauty in the way I wanted to see it. So I decided to make one! The site launched in September.

TFS: Who are some of your favorite designers?
EW: Alexander Wang, Phoebe Philo for Celine, Dries van Noten, Isabel Marant, and Eddie Borgo.
TFS: What is your favorite blog/website – one that you have to look at daily?
EW: JakandJil.com. I love everything about it, and him (Tommy Ton).
TFS: If you could pass along a style tip to our readers, what would it be?
EW: Build a ‘base’ around one or two pieces—a particular pair of pants, for instance, and let it be the cornerstone of your wardrobe. It’s much easier to get dressed in the morning and winds up creating a consistent silhouette.
TFS: What’s the latest film you’ve seen that you loved?
EW: The Conformist.
