Beach Beauty: Look Gorgeous Long Before You Hit the Water

Wear Your Hair down

It might make sense to throw your hair back in a ponytail in the heat, but pulling hair from your face can draw a lot of attention to other parts of your body. We loved how the newly engaged Kim K. embraced this tip, letting her luscious locks steal the spotlight at a recent trip to the pool.

Nervous about frizz? Try Fekkai’s Marine Summer Hair-Beach Waves  ($24) before you head into the sun. This algae extract infused, “zero-humidity frizz control” spray shields hair from moisture and keeps your ’do looking sleek until it’s time to come in.

Avoid Oily Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an absolute essential when sun bathing, but the amount of oily residue it leaves behind—not to mention potential blemishes—simply isn’t cute.  We recommend using an oil-free sunscreen concocted specifically with faces in mind.

Still looking oily? One of our newest obsessions is Bare Escentuals’ SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen powder ($28). Replace your regular powder with this lightweight product to prevent oil-related breakouts and shiny skin, but be sure it’s spread evenly and all over the face.

Stain Your Lips and Cheeks

There’s no point in spending time applying lipstick and blushing your cheeks if it’s going to wash off the moment you go swimming. Instead, try a lip/cheek stain that will keep your cheeks rosy and your pout pretty, long before (and after) your day at the beach.

Don’t know where to start? We love Becca’s Beach Tint ($25), a water-resistant stain for cheeks and lips. Just a tiny bit of this cream will bring color back into your face and help you feel far less barefaced after you’ve dipped in the water.

Waterproof Your Lashes

Admit it: the thought of leaving the house without even a touch of eye makeup terrifies us light-haired ladies. The best way to feel confident in your bikini is to know everything else looks flawless, so why change a good routine? Invest in a waterproof mascara and concealer and be sure to test them in the shower before you wear them to the beach.

Missing your old mascara already? Make the transition a little easier with Chanel’s Inimitable Waterproof Mascara ($30). This volumizing formula won’t run or flake, no matter how much you perspire or how many times you go swimming.
