Vera Farmiga: Beauty Look of the Week

Who: Vera Farmiga

Where: The New York premiere of Higher Ground

Why we like it: A beauty look doesn’t always have to be contrived to be striking. This look on Vera Farmiga enhances all of her best features, most notably her eyes, but still looks relaxed and natural. Her perfect base paired with a relaxed ‘lob’ works with her natural beauty instead of against it.

How to get it at home: The most important part of this beauty look is a flawless base. With a perfect base, you can get away with wearing very little on the rest of your face. Start by priming your skin and applying a very thin layer of a liquid foundation such as Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation $42 which is great for covering any areas of pigmentation or discoloration on the skin. Use concealer as needed but be sure to buff the product into the skin resulting in a single layer of makeup. Gradually apply a cream blush such as Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Blush in Walk of Shame $25 for a subtle pink glow on the apples of your cheeks. To finish your base, apply an illuminating powder such as Guerlain’s Meteorites Powder $57 which has multi-colored pearls that both reflect natural light and hide any remaining imperfections.

To get Vera’s subtle shimmery eye, apply a small amount of Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Sandy Gold $22 all over the lid and into the inner corner. This will add a warm glow around the graphite shaded smoky eye. If you’re using another product, be sure to look for a shadow with very small particles of glitter. You want the shimmer to reflect the light without drawing too much attention to the shine. Next, with a smudge brush, apply a charcoal cream shadow such as Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream in Anthracite $22 along the lash line on the top and bottom. With a fluffy crease brush, buff around the socket line and outer corner to blend the grey into the beige resulting in a soft, glowing eye. Individual eyelashes around the outer corner of the eye lift, open, and draw attention to the eyes but if you don’t have access to individuals, don’t be afraid to cut strip lashes in thirds, or smaller, for easy application. Finish off your makeup look with a warm apricot colored lip gloss such as NARS’ Larger Than Life Gloss in Odalisque $26.
