Diane Kruger: Beauty Look of the Week

Who: Diane Kruger

Where: The Ides of March premiere at the Venice Film Festival

Why we like it: To be honest, I’ve been waiting since the Met Ball to feature Diane Kruger’s amazing beauty choices but none of them blew me away until this one. Her look is completely monochrome from her skin tone to her dress and her makeup and hair really accentuate her best features.

How to get it at home: Starting with the hair, a thickening or volumizing shampoo, such as Bumble and bumble’s Thickening Shampoo $22, is a great place to start because if your hair has a natural curl to it, the product will enhance it and if your hair is limp and flat, you’ll need the extra thickness when styling. To get that tousled post-beach look, apply a salt water spray such as Charlotte Ronson’s new A Perfect Mess Beach Hair Spray $20, to damp hair. This will give your hair lift and natural looking texture whether you style further with a one-inch barrel curling iron or leave your hair as is for a more natural look.

To get Diane’s minimalist makeup, start by applying your base by using as little product as possible. An illuminating tinted moisturizer can act as primer and highlighter and will save your skin from looking cakey and overly made up. If necessary, apply concealer in any problem areas making sure to blend thoroughly. Using an all over color in a warm tan color, such as NARS’ The Multiple in Lamu $39, apply the color on your cheeks and lips. Blend well into the skin for a smooth, even finish. Next, apply that same color to the outer socket-line of your eye. This will not only add definition to your eye but will also result in a warm glow. With a damp brush, for more pigmented color, apply a graphite colored eyeshadow such as Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow in Gunmetal $17 with a patting motion, smoothing the color over your lid towards the outer corner.

Next, apply a liquid eyeliner such as Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black $20 to the upper lash line. The hard line of the liquid liner, paired with a clean waterline and lower lash line, helps to keep this look more minimal rather than opting for a traditional smoky eye. While Diane is wearing false eyelashes, a few coats of a good black mascara will work just the same, but make sure you curl your eyelashes before to open up your eyes. Lastly, apply a nude, shiny lip gloss, such as Dior’s Lip Maximizer in Apricot 002 $30, or a simple shiny lip balm.
