Julie Bensman Tries the Make Up For Ever HD Complexion Starter Kit

I've always been lucky to have good skin, which is one of the reasons why foundation never made its way into my makeup drawer. Just as my mother passed down the good epidermic genes, she also never used foundation — and considering this was a few years ago, why should she? Formulas of yesteryear were cakey and thick, making the both of us look like news anchors or cadavers. Today, with the NYC air (humid and putrid in the summer; dry and smog-filled in the winter), I need my skin to BREATHE, not be confined to a life under layers.

Which is why I was skeptical to try Make Up For Ever's Complexion Starter Kit. But even after one use, I'm a total convert and I've got the pictures to prove it:

Before: With wet hair from the shower, my skin is freshly washed and you can tell it's the dead of winter (hence the translucent shade). I've got some dark circles under my eyes (thank you, air travel and holiday stress) and a general lackluster tone.

After: The three-step process left my face still feeling clean, but looking much more even, polished and with a subtle glow.

I started with the HD Microfinish Primer, which not only smelled amazing but kept my makeup in place all day. Step 2, the HD Invisible Cover Foundation was a cream base but felt like fine powder once applied. Last, I used the super-soft HD Kabuki Brush (included) to apply the HD Microfinish powder, which took away all my shine and balanced out the dark circles under my eyes.

They call it Make Up For Ever for a reason: you (and I) will be sticking with this easy regime for a long time to come.
