Switch Up Your Smoky Eye with Cate Blanchett’s Stunning Look

Who: Cate Blanchett

Where: 3rd Annual AACTA Awards

Why we like it: Whenever we spy a smoky eye that makes us take a second look, we know it’s special. We adore how this look really utilizes the whole eye area. Many times a smoky eye can look pedestrian, but we love how this looks like a soft-focus cat eye. It’s a perfect look for Valentine’s Day, plus the nude lip is makeout-proof!

How to get it at home: Start with a radiant foundation, such as Dior’s Capture Totale Foundation ($82), which is part of a new serum-based category of foundations that host anti-aging ingredients—always a plus! Add some depth to the skin with a soft-finish blush, such as Guerlain Meteorites Bubble Blush in Cherry ($42), but apply with caution as this packs a color punch. Define your brows lightly with Guerlain’s Eyebrow Kit 4 Long-Lasting Powders Tailor-Made Shades ($52), which affords the opportunity to provide depth with a multi-tone finish.

Now to the spotlight feature, the eye. Our favorite element of this smoky eye is that it’s so artfully blended. Heavy shades like glittery dark purple can easily overwhelm the eye, so we love Urban Decay’s Naked3 ($52) palette, which affords you the opportunity to shade with a variety of tones without having to buy a bucketload of shadows. As with any smoky eye, start at the lashline and work your way out so you can control the placement and depth of color. Finally, add drama to your look with a dark, lengthening mascara like the classic Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Smoky Lash ($23) and finish off your look with a swipe of Too Faced’s La Creme Lipstick in Taffy ($22)
