Birgit Kos Lights Up Vogue Russia’s February Covers

It’s been a while since Vogue Russia last captured our attention — the September issue featuring a trio of Russian supermodels, to be exact. The magazine is back on our radar for February 2019 with two covers featuring Dutch beauty Birgit Kos. Currently one of the industry’s most in-demand models, Kos was photographed by Giampaolo Sgura flashing a big smile, wearing a bold red lip and some Miu Miu double denim in the first cover, while dialing up the glam in a Valentino creation for the second cover (after the jump).

According to a select few of our forum members, Birgit deserved a whole lot better. “Very boring!” said Perickles immediately after the covers broke.

“Seriously, I have no interest in Giampaolo Sgura’s work,” added ChicSaks.

“I’ve seen this concept/colors before… and photographed by Sgura,” jorgepalomo said.

Gisele Bündchen’s Return as the Face of Missoni Is So 1999 — and We’re Here for It

Campaign season is now in full swing and one of the latest to drop is Missoni. Over the past few seasons, the Italian fashion label has favored the likes of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner to front its mainline collections. For Spring 2019, Missoni welcomes back an old favorite: Gisele Bündchen, who is joined by Belgian-Egyptian singer, Tamino. Shot by photographer Harley Weir, the Brazilian bombshell shows off her decades worth of expertise as she strikes dynamic poses in the dreamy and ethereal images.

Members of our forums were ecstatic upon checking out the campaign. “God knows I can’t abide Gisele, but this campaign is stunning! Her poses are dynamic enough to play along with the setting. But extra props to the set designer. That later 90s/early 00s era where editors still invested in unique backdrops and sets is very pleasing and something fresh here,” admired Benn98.

“The first shot is phenomenal! I’ll always love her energy,” Riseup raved.

“So 1999!” applauded ivano.

Saoirse Ronan Is the Picture of Elegance on British Harper’s Bazaar’s Regal February Cover

Given the current state of the magazine industry with everyone fighting for prime position, cutting publishing frequency or forced to go digital, you have to admire the magazines that stay true to their identity and power through the tough times. British Harper’s Bazaar is one such magazine that shows no signs of changing anytime soon, much to the delight of our forum members. Emily Blunt was practically perfect in every way on last month’s cover, Keira Knightley was the quintessential Bazaar woman in December and Maartje Verhoef provided a simply stunning cover for November. Now, actress Saoirse Ronan appears perfectly poised as Bazaar‘s cover girl for February 2019, photographed by Erik Madigan Heck and styled by Leith Clark on location at Hammond Castle in Gloucester, England.

For our forum members, the cover was love at first sight. “A lovely shot. I love how regal and elegant she looks. So classy – no pout or other gimmick in sight. Her makeup gives me Carolyn Bessette Kennedy vibes,” commented Morgane07.

“This is such a stunning cover! Shows how beautiful Saoirse is and does her far better justice than her US Vogue cover. I just love how Bazaar has executed this – just like last month, I know straight away the film she’s promoting without it being tacky or costume-y,” admired 333101.

“Saoirse doesn’t really need to do gimmicky poses for you to be stunned by her. I love this cover very regal and strong,” xandroh complimented.

Steven Meisel’s Max Mara Campaign Is Giving Us Flashbacks to the Good Old Days

Our forum members love a good Steven Meisel shoot, but that doesn’t mean they won’t call the photographer out on occasion. This campaign season alone, the forums have criticized his work for Moschino, Versace and Jimmy Choo. But Meisel’s luck is about to change with his twelfth consecutive Max Mara campaign for Spring 2019, as he switches the focus from one model to four for the new season. Anyelina Rosa, Saskia de Brauw, Veronika Kunz and Julia Nobis join forces for a series of color-coordinated images styled by Carine Roitfeld.

Members of our forums were instant fans. “Very Meisel. It’s something like this that I would like to see at Versace (less girls and a straight-to-the-point approach),” praised forum member ghostwriter10549.

“Great use of Meisel (you better learn Donatella),” echoed Riseup.

“I think this is stunning. My favorite campaign of the season so far,” raved tjasmine.

Erika Linder Suits Up on Vogue Paris’ Unisex-Themed Issue

Vogue Paris is easily one of the most predictable magazines in the business and in 2018, it welcomed back a whole host of familiar faces including Kaia Gerber, Anna Ewers, Kate Moss and Natasha Poly. But the magazine is starting off the year with a surprise, featuring androgynous model and actress Erika Linder on the February 2019 cover. The Swedish beauty and Nicolas Ghesquière favorite was photographed by Mikael Jansson and styled by Emmanuelle Alt in a suit from Hedi Slimane’s debut Celine collection.

The cover garnered mixed reviews from our forum members. “Wow, surprising choice! Definitely on board with this. She’s a stunning, yet underrated actress. There’s something very 90s about the shot, in a good way. And her cute smile along with the yellow made the cover look light and joyful,” said Benn98 the moment the cover struck.

“This is a very refreshing cover. That smile is contagious. The colors worked as well,” exclaimed MON.

“I really like it. It’s luminous, simple and I love how she has wonky teeth and there’s little Photoshop,” Morgane07 commented.

Chanel’s New Ad Campaign Is Missing All the Fun of the Spring 2019 Collection

There’s nothing worse than an advertising campaign that doesn’t reflect the vibe of a collection. For Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring 2019 Chanel show, he turned an elaborate man-made beach into a runway to serve as a picturesque and idyllic backdrop for the playful collection. Now, that mood is completely absent from the collection’s campaign, which was shot in Lagerfeld’s studio (once again) against a drab backdrop. Styled by Carine Roitfeld, the ads feature an ensemble cast of models, including Vittoria Ceretti, Sarah Dahl, Adesuwa Aighewi, Hyun Ji Shin, Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Nora Attal and Kris Grikaite.

Members of our forums declared the campaign a total missed opportunity. “Hate it. Don’t like the boyish hair, too many models and don’t like the studio-ness of it all. Next,” said Scotty the second the campaign dropped.

“With such a fresh runway presentation this falls flat! Really boring and soulless. The casting is really insipid and the fact they used so many people is kind of absurd. I guess they thought the concept was so weak they had to go overboard for the casting,” said Creative.
