Editors’ Street Style: Fall 2011 Fashion Week in Milan (Forum Buzz)

The fashion flock continues to bring out their experimental best as “fashion month” continues. Here, some street style looks that stood out from Fall 2011 Fashion Week in Milan.

Giovanna Battaglia, Fashion Director at Vogue Gioiello and Vogue Pelle, tends to be a street style favorite in the Fashion Spot forums. Her quirky signature style was on full display in Milan last week. Battaglia showed off her long legs in a short Prada banana-print skirt and accessorized with black tights, a purple jewel-toned cross-body Fendi bag, and Fendi color block heels. The final effect worked surprisingly well. “She wears that banana skirt so well without it looking silly, and those shoes are great!” wrote jacquelyn paige. *ana* “really, really [liked] how she paired that Prada skirt with those Fendi shoes. Love how they contrast with the black tights,” she added. Mikeijames was also a fan of the color combinations. “I love the mix of purple with that banana skirt!” he exclaimed.

Battaglia suffered a bit of a misstep with her choice of boots, but her sharply tailored camel-colored leather blazer, flouncy red skirt and Fendi bag more than made up for it. “I love that outfit!” declared isa.b.elle. “My favorite so far… even if those boots are quite ugly,” she added.  Melly5525 expressed a similar thought: “I love this outfit, the leather jacket is fab with the red skirt, perfect combo, and [I] love the bag just not the boots.”

Battaglia’s choice to wear a matching blouse and beige floral printed pants topped off with a grey jacket and finished with orange heels that popped against black tights met with slight resistance but garnered generally positive reviews. Ciao!Manhattan thought that Battaglia looked “really lovely,” while MissyJG expressed that she “hated the matching pants and shirt look. Separately they are great though and I love the print,” she conceded. For Melly5525 the look was a winner. “Definitely not an easy look to pull off,” she said, “but I think she looks great. [I] love the print and the shoes work so well with it.”

Later on in the week, Battaglia sported a matching green floral skirt and jacket that prompted CMPC to observe: “Apparently she’s into matching outfits more than usual lately.” To which Ziegfeld Girl responded: “I like it though. She’s chosen interesting prints when she does.”

Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon, loves to make a statement and she certainly did just that when she appeared in head to toe Prada from the Spring 2011 collection. “I’m so glad to see her in Prada S/S 2011,” said mackos, “brilliant together with the shoes and this perfect fur stole.” The appreciation for the loud look was shared by others as well. “She looks perfect in that Prada dress, even the shoes match!” said liberty33r1b, and Ziegfeld Girl posted: “I love Anna’s black and orange Prada outfit. She looks fantastic!”

Dello Russo wore a decidedly more restrained Pucci look in Milan that also received praise from the forum. “That dress is just oozing sex!” declared dodencebt. Melly5525 loved the dress but thought “it would be better if she wasn’t so revealed.”

Dello Russo’s colleague, Viviana Volpicella, an Assistant Fashion Director for Vogue Nippon, was dressed to impress in stripes of varying colors and widths. Volpicella paired a Stella McCartney top with a Prada skirt and shoes, and Louis Vuitton handbag. “I love the mix of stripes here,” BetteT commented. “She has an impeccable eye not only for color, but also for proportion. I love this!!” She wasn’t the only one; Ziegfeld Girl wrote, “I love all the different coloured stripes Viviana is wearing. I would never think of doing something like that but she really makes it work.”

Volpicella carried the same Louis Vuitton bag later on in the week while wearing a denim button-up shirt tucked into a short pleated camel-colored skirt with black tights, leopard print pumps and a camouflage parka with a fur-trimmed collar. “Magnifico!!! [The] camo parka is perfection!” raved FashionGuru1988.

Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style and Accessories director for Marie Claire, wore her signature blue Celine clutch and a pair of feminine Louis Vuitton heels with a dark velvet skirt and greige sweater over a green floral shirt (she was also spotted wearing the shirt during New York Fashion Week with a Junya Watanabe skirt) that received mixed reviews. The Louis Vuitton shoes were a big hit, “but um… this floral shirt… I think she loves it so much but I don’t understand why,” laughed godsavethhequeen. Melly5525 was a fan of the whole ensemble: “Love the Vuitton shoes with that look. I don’t even mind the green floral blouse under the sweater, the look works.”

Tomasi Hill accessorized a black and white outfit with an interesting necklace and statement shoes to give the look some additional oomph. “Love the belt/collar/necklace thing she’s wearing in Milan,” wrote Not Plain Jane. “Her accessories really are indicative of her job as she always experiments with them to great effect,” she added.
