Let’s face it: Teen Vogue lately is about the only magazine that is willing to take a leap of faith now and again by serving up our regular dose of diversity. Our forums have championed the magazine for doing so and we recently welcomed its efforts to profile Zoe Kravitz back in March. Continuing with diverse cover subjects, Teen Vogue taps Willow Smith as its May 2016 cover girl. The recently announced Chanel ambassador takes to the front cover for the first time wearing a jacket and dress from the French fashion house, standing before the lens of Emma Summerton.
Forum members weren’t feeling Willow’s runway-inspired eye makeup, however. “The eye makeup is so bothersome. I’m sorry. They were really starting to make progress… then this?” asked a horrified MON.
“What a nauseous and eye roll-inducing profile!! The harsh eye makeup ruined what would’ve been an otherwise OK cover. I like only the first shot [below left], because it covers her face,” added Benn98.
Also disappointed was narcyza: “This makeup is awful and it’s not a good choice for the cover.”
“I don’t hate it, don’t really like the eye makeup but I am captivated,” admitted TeeVanity.
Fer19dog soon lightened the mood, raving, “Everything works on this cover, she looks great. I like her facial expression!”
“I love it!. I love Willow, she is such a beauty. She could be a good model,” commended thatsfierce.
Sharing the same positive attitude toward Willow’s presence was Bertrando3: “Love the cover!!! I find this girl fascinating: her music, fashion, public persona, her overall style and demeanor are really cool.”
