Since its launch, our forums have applauded Porter for consistently delivering daring, innovative and powerful covers and content. But it appears as though the title has let standards slip ever so slightly with its latest offerings. For Porter’s Winter 2016 edition, actress Alicia Vikander follows in the footsteps of Emma Watson, Sienna Miller and Jessica Chastain as the magazine’s newest cover star. Photographed by Ryan McGinley, Alicia smolders in the cover shot sporting a killer smoky eye — but our forum members weren’t all too impressed.
A certain element of the shot didn’t go well with the majority. “The last few Porter magazine covers are not that good anymore. I used to love every single Porter magazine cover but those days are over,” stated DutchHomme.
“Oh she looks miserable! Was she on a date with Michael Fassbender?!” asked a disapproving t-rex.
“Easily the worst and ugliest cover they’ve done yet. Everything looks so severe, and I’m positively fed up with Alicia Vikander,” slammed an uninterested Benn98.
Expressing the same feeling toward the cover was zzzyao76: “God…I will not buy this, this cover is not the level of Porter. The makeup is awful, makes Alicia look like 40 years old. And it’s shot by McGinley? Can’t believe it!”
Forum member kokobombon wasn’t thrilled, either. “I like her but this is just bad. I think they should have left the focus on the earring and gone with lighter makeup, the false lashes seem too heavy. Add crappy Photoshop to her mouth and teeth and you end up with this disaster,” she exclaimed in horror.
“She looks so much older with all that makeup. I guess she is trying to serve attitude, but she just looks really unhappy,” gazebo said in agreement.
Velasco shared the same sentiments, writing, “Ouch. This is not Porter’s finest moment. Vikander looks as though she spent the afternoon at a funeral. I hope the contents make up for this depressing cover.”
Better luck next time Porter. In the meantime, await the content of the issue and share your opinion with us here.
