Vanity Fair Summer 2018 : Emilia Clarke by Craig McDean

Emilia Clarke’s Radiant Smile Saves the Cover of Vanity Fair’s Summer Issue

has been at the helm of Vanity Fair for a number of months now and has yet to win over our opinionated forum members. Jones shamefully used a paparazzi shot of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last month and prior covers featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Lena Waithe barely made an impression. The magazine has just unveiled its Summer 2018 cover featuring actress Emilia Clarke (who doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to fashion covers), photographed by Craig McDean. Emilia is all smiles in the portrait cover image, sporting a platinum blonde ‘do and pale green Tory Burch shirt.

One element, in particular, stood out to forum members. “I just can’t with their god-awful art direction now! It just lacks substance for me, it looks like a weekly, throwaway, magazine now. Nothing about this works for me, her name over the masthead? WTF!! The saving grace is her beautiful smile and face,” commented Miss Dalloway upon checking out the cover.

“Hate the new art direction, God it’s so juvenile! Like some first-year design student’s admission proposal. What’s with Condé Nast and awful art direction? Glamour, GQ, now VF. Laughable! The image itself is stunning and would be more suited to The Gentlewoman. Is that what she’s going for now?” wondered Benn98.

“So bland. And her name should not be around the masthead, it’s infuriating to look at,” 333101 pointed out.

Mepps wasn’t much of an admirer either. “I’m also not feeling the new art direction of this magazine. Everything seems to be done on a budget now. The new editor seems to be taking it back to the Tina Brown dark ages. Sad times,” he shared.

“The art direction is pretty awful, but I think Emilia looks great,” confessed fee de foret.

“It’s nice to see an Emilia cover where she’s not overpowered by her hair – either by the ‘in character’ blonde, or her natural brunette shade that somehow makes her fade away into the background,” forum member tigerrouge admitted.
