Vogue Brazil April 2019 : Irina Shayk by Giampaolo Sgura

Irina Shayk Does Casual Cool for Vogue Brazil’s April 2019 Covers

For several years now, our forum members have had a love/hate relationship with model Irina Shayk. Despite the naysayers, the Russian beauty has racked up a pretty impressive portfolio, scoring covers of Vogue Arabia, Vogue Germany, Vogue SpainVogue Russia and Vogue Turkey in 2018 alone. She just became a brand ambassador for Marc Jacobs Beauty, is the current face of Versace and Burberry, and now stars on the April 2019 issue of Vogue Brazil for the third time. Shot by Giampaolo Sgura and styled by Pedro Sales, Shayk features on two covers, wearing Marcelo Von Trapp (below) and a Burberry trench (after the jump).

Was it enough to impress our fickle forum members? “A furry bikini on the beach? That should guarantee you a barrel of laughs! The styling is very casual cool, but the photography and cheesy smile scream catalogue. It’s time for Irina to be shot by an experimental photographer now. Yes, we know what her strengths are, but quite frankly it’s getting boring,” remarked Benn98.

“I’ll never understand how she gets so many covers, must have sold her soul because she’s really not nearly as versatile as other models,” said marsnoop2.

“More often than not, I am the first to defend Irina Shayk whenever she’s on the scene but there’s no way I could stand and defend this. What on earth happened to Giampaolo Sgura? He wasn’t the most groundbreaking of photographers but his work used to be far better than this,” vogue28 said.

Dodencebt wasn’t a fan either. “Is it me or are the photos quite dark? I’m missing the brightness and contrast in the actual images to match Irina’s expressions. This way it looks like the raw photos before post production,” he stated.

“I will not stand for all this Irina slander. She looks gorgeous as ever. The covers are boring, though. Guess Sgura nowadays is too busy being a militant vegan online to create good covers,” voiced russianelf.

Nomar didn’t feel the need for double covers this month: “They should have just stuck with the second one. The first cover doesn’t look fashionable at all!”
