Vogue Japan’s Model Extravaganza Makes for a Disappointing March 2020 Cover

We’ve been experiencing a Vogue Japan by Luigi & Iango drought since last August, but a little rain has finally come our way with the unveiling of the mag’s March 2020 issue. The photographic duo has been behind some of Japanese Vogue‘s best covers over recent years complete with cover stars like Kim Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, Namie Amuro and Gisele Bündchen. For March, the title gives us all the models we can handle with Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls, Edita Vilkeviciute, Doutzen Kroes and Sui He making up the cast each wearing a look from Stella McCartney’s Spring 2020 collection (picked by Anna Dello Russo) surrounded by a floral illustration by Thierry Perez.

But the cover didn’t hit the spot for our forum members. “This looks like a horrible fan-designed cover. The lost potential…” proclaimed Nomar.

“Well that’s a letdown,” added marsnoop2.

“Oh, it’s way too busy. I can’t even look at it for long,” said whippie.

“I think it’s hilarious that Luigi & Iango shot this for an ‘All Natural’ cover. Nothing screams ‘natural’ more than a bunch of Photoshopped supermodels with bleached eyebrows,” mocked mikel.

Marc10 shared the same sentiment: “It’s always astonishing how they manage to suck every bit of personality from the models and turn them into plastic clones.”

“Looks like a snake pit of supermodels,” declared tigerrouge.

“Everything is far too clashy. Why not just give us a portrait shot of one girl (Edita!) and call it a day. The only one who benefits from this cover is the brand because those dresses are all in full view,” called out Benn98.

The accompanying cover feature is a total must-see. Check it out and share your thoughts here.
