We’re all well aware that Vogue Japan favors studio covers shot against all-white backgrounds. After all, only three covers this year featured a nonwhite backdrop. Now that 2021 is around the corner, things are shaping up as we finally venture into the great outdoors with Japanese Vogue‘s January 2021 cover shoot. Ditching its trademark multi-model format for the moment, Mona Tougaard goes solo on the mag’s latest captured by photographer Giampaolo Sgura. Shot on location in the Puglia region of Italy, the Danish beauty looks ethereal in the refreshing cover image perched on a wall wearing a dreamy look from Christian Dior’s Cruise 2021 collection courtesy of Anna Dello Russo.
The cover quickly got the attention of our forum members. “I immediately clicked on this after I saw Mona’s name. I actually like this cover. It’s different from their typical studio cover shoots, but it doesn’t take away from their aesthetic,” appreciated crmsnsnwflks.
“It’s actually a really striking cover… I like it, Mona looks like a regal cottage goddess and that Dior cruise collection photographs like a dream,” added THD96.
“It’s a win for me, Mona just does it effortlessly — so beautiful,” said aracic.

“Stunning! Love it. Finally a Vogue cover for Mona. About time,” applauded guimon.
“Amazing cover and a great score for Vogue Japan! I bet this is just the first of Mona’s Vogue covers for the upcoming year, now that she is 18, she’s bound to end up on Vogue Italia. Who knows, maybe even Vogue U.K.!” voiced russianelf.
