Amanda Gorman Appears on Two Delightful Vogue Covers for May 2021

We’ve been expecting Amanda Gorman to land the cover of a major fashion glossy ever since reading her amazing poem at Joe Biden’s inauguration back in January. Leave it to Anna Wintour to secure the 23-year-old poet and activist for Vogue. Making her debut on a pair of delightful May 2021 covers, Amanda receives the full Vogue treatment from photographer Annie Leibovitz and stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson. For cover one (below), Amanda wears a look from Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2021 Menswear collection and looks ethereal in a lace Christian Dior number for cover two (after the jump).

The covers sparked debate on our forums. “I actually love these. I love how the first cover is unapologetic. However, the second cover is the best! The best cover I’ve seen from Vogue in months! This second cover is quintessential U.S. Vogue,” applauded MON.

“The second cover is such a winning attempt at a full body shot. So effortlessly gorgeous… Plus, the colors are easier on the eye and calmer than the first one,” admired Benn98.

THD96 is also a fan: “Both covers are stunning. I love the first cover so elegant and regal. She looks like a queen. The green text complements the dress so well. When Annie delivers, she just delivers.”

“Anna really redeemed herself after the lackluster April issue. Annie definitely was the right choice here, love both covers,” raved 1018am.

“Gorgeous covers. Amanda photographs beautifully,” declared mepps.

“This is unexpectedly good. I generally expect something like this to never turn out that well, but everything came together from the photographer to the styling and Amanda herself,” praised SLFC.
