Berlin Fashion Week Looks So Good

Lena HoschekHere in New York, we're all sitting around twiddling our thumbs, waiting for the February shows to come to town and make our lives interesting. But over in Berlin, the runways are already alive with FASHION.

On the global fashion scene, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin might not be in quite the same league as New York, London, Paris, or Milan's fashion week, but the city has a lot of potential. Even though the quality of its arts scene may be debatable, Berlin's known as the contemporary avant-garde capital of Europe. Its relatively cheap cost of living and surplus of (universally insufferable) "young creatives" have allowed the city to stake out a reputation as a style destination.

Case in point: the Austrian designer Lena Hoschek opened Berlin's Fall 2012 season with a collection I'd like to wear today, please. Designed for a smaller, less-saturated market, Hoschek's retro-inspired pieces are less ambitious than a lot of the clothing we see on the New York & co. runways, but they're ultimately more wearable.

And she ships worldwide.
