Even though the CFDA issued a recommendation to designers urging them not to use models younger than 16 in their shows, a fourteen and fifteen-year-old walked the Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 runway last night. Thairine Garcia and Ondria Hardin are both represented by Ford Models, the only agency that reportedly included under-16 models in its show package. Apart from some bad press, thwarting the CFDA's initiative to improve protection to models in the fashion industry won't have any real consequences for either Ford or Marc Jacobs.
Whew. Teenagers might be temperamental and sometimes hard to work with, but Marc Jacobs' runway show couldn't have gone on without these young models. The looks they showed exuded a kind of girlish charm and effervescence that would have been lost on a past-her-prime 16-year-old.
