Whether or not the remarks the designer made last year were charged solely by his addicitions, anti-Semitism is treated very harshly in France — and the legal system has not been very friendly to Galliano in the recent past: apart from President Hollande’s decision to strip Galliano’s Legion of Honor award, last June, the French court found him guilty of anti-Semitism and fined him €6,000.
But if Galliano’s moving ahead with the suit against Dior, he must think he has a chance to win. Which means there’s something in his defense we haven’t heard before. I don’t know how this is all going to turn out, but I want to know.
