Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is Coming to London!

The exhibition will be housed at the Victoria and Albert museum, opening March 14, 2015 and running until June 19.

Judging by the success of the exhibition in its first home at the Met, it will be worth buying up your ticket fast to see Lee McQueen’s masterpieces displayed in his home town. When it opened in New York in 2011, the original run was extended by a week and the show was the eighth most popular show in the Met’s history with 661,509 visitors.

The director of the V&A, Martin Roth, was pleased to break the news yesterday. “I am thrilled to announce that the V&A will bring this wonderful exhibition to London to celebrate the extraordinary creative talent of one of the most innovative designers of recent times. Lee Alexander McQueen was brought up in London, studied here and based his globally successful McQueen fashion brand here–by staging the exhibition at the V&A it feels like we are bringing his work home.”

The exhibition tells the story of McQueen’s incredible work, documenting everything from the 1992 MA graduate show that was famously bought up in its entirety by Isabella Blow, to his final collection for Fall 2010 which was unfinished after his tragic death on February 11, 2010. Not often does the world truly recognise the talent of a fashion designer, but McQueen never failed to amaze and inspire. Having this incredible body of work on show in London will no doubt reinvigorate the country’s admiration for the humble visionary.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is supported by American Express in partnership with Swarovski. Entry is £16 with concessions available.
