Versace Brings Back Crotchless Chaps With Its Fall 2014 Ad Campaign

I don’t know how you feel about crotchless pants, but you have to appreciate Versace’s attention to detail: the way the printing on the underwear complements the embroidery crawling across the leg of Daan’s jeans and the graphic on his T-shirt. If you have any inclination to wear crotchless pants, this is how you do it.

There are other, chest-related aspects of this photo that we could discuss, but I’ll leave you to silently ponder those while I move on to the womenswear campaign below. Please join me whenever you’re ready.

I wish this were the baseline for fashion photography (and in fact, it does borrow something from two of the genre’s most influential practitioners — Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton). The image, featuring models Anna Ewers and Stella Tennant, is sleek and sexy; it makes me want to buy Versace clothing, and I don’t typically identify with the Versace brand. Combining high commercial appeal with a strong conceptual vision, the ad draws you in as a viewer and evokes a mood.
