To say Joe Zee‘s a busy man would be an understatement. The editor certainly has his hands full at the helm of Yahoo’s newly-launched style website, which over the past few weeks, Zee has been steadily promoting on his social media channels. But even with all this piled on his plate, Zee’s still got the time to lend to other big projects, like his new gig as Old Navy‘s Style Ambassador, which he fêted yesterday evening.
There was plenty to do at the affair — guests sipped cocktails and nibbled on tiny hors d’oeuvres as they browsed through the space, which boasted a candy bar. Old Navy totes filled with goodies awaited those who wanted them, while there were also photo booths and even a stand where you could get stamped with a metallic flash tattoo. The event was not without the obligatory celebrity presence. A mob of camera phones let out resounding clicks as Katie Holmes, dressed in a simple button-down, jeans and black bow pumps, got a gold flash tattoo applied to the back of her neck. Hilary Rhoda also stopped by to support.
“I love fashion when I can open it up to everybody,” he told us. “I worked in fashion for a long time and in the beginning, it was just a small group of people. I love when I can share what I love with everyone, and we all love good things, we all love nice style. We all want it to be affordable, we all want it to be accessible. Those things are important to me.”
It doesn’t get more accessible than Old Navy. And Zee’s been a walking advertisement for the retailer, noting that he wears the jeans from the collection every day. “I had to go buy three more pairs just in case they ran out of my size in this wash. I wear them everywhere!” As for styling his trusty Old Navy denim? “I never cuff them, I just let them be. I usually wear my high-tops with them.”
His enthusiasm for the retailer just so happens to fit perfectly with its marketing plan this season, encouraging people to “fall in love” with the label. But it sounds like Zee’s one step ahead of the curve, simply gushing over Old Navy’s offerings this season. Besides his jeans, he’s taken a particular liking to a women’s sweater option this season. “It’s under $30, three-quarter sleeved, ribbed and comes in a million colors — I love it. It’s the perfect fall sweater.”
