Ariana Grande Looks Shocked to Be on Marie Claire’s October Issue

With her mouth agape, the singer flashes a surprised glance at the camera, making for quite an interesting shot, to say the least.

Like most other former child stars, Ariana is trying to shake her teenybopper image and, as we know, there’s no better way to do that than to sex things up. For the video of her single “The Way,” she says, “I dyed my hair back to brown. I made out with a rapper in the video. I made the point I wanted to make. And I was excited to do so after so many years of pretending to be somebody else in front of a lot of people.” Changing your hair, associating with rappers…sounds like the basic recipe young stars employ to show that they’re “grown.”

But apparently, Ariana’s been big in the britches for much longer than that. She tells Marie Claire that she always knew she wanted to do music.

“I was 14 years old and ready to make an R&B album. I was like, ‘Where is that Mary J. Blige collab? Where is that Natasha Bedingfield writing session? Where is my session with India.Arie? I’m ready. Let’s go.’ I wrote this song called ‘Higher,’ and the lyrics were too sexual, too mature. And my mom was like, ‘This is a great song, but damn, you’re too young for this.’”

Not anymore, apparently. The singer, who’s rumored to be dating Big Sean, is all grown-up — even if she doesn’t look it.
