Kanye West x Adidas Originals Season 1: We Hope You Like Body Stockings

After months of waiting, Kanye West finally revealed yesterday what he’s been working on with Adidas all this time. As affairs hosted by the rapper tend to be, the show was star-studded. FROW-goers included Beyoncé, Jay Z, Diddy, Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Alexander Wang, Hailey Baldwin, Russell Simmons and of course, assorted members of the Kardashian-Jenner collective: Kris, Khloé, Kendall, Kim and little North West (who was as displeased about the show’s 45-minute late start as many editors in attendance).

In an interesting twist, Kylie Jenner was tapped to model in the show, as opposed to her buzzy big sis, Instagirl Kendall. Indeed, the front row was so major that a few big names were relegated to the second row — Justin Bieber was noticeably seated behind Kendall and Khloé, flanked by rappers 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Pusha T. Were they simply not chic enough for this particular FROW? Who knows. It would have been quite entertaining to see 2 Chainz and Anna Wintour sharing a pre-show laugh, but alas, such fantasies were dashed yesterday.

The show was staged in collaboration with Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft with models of all shapes and sizes standing in line, a mood that Kanye said was a nod to the 2011 London Riots. Indeed, the models looked like they were ready for such a turn up. On tap were sports bras, tops mimicking bulletproof vests, camo parkas and, uh, body stockings — we guess for peak agility? The outerwear represented the most substantial pieces in the collection — enter parkas in shades of camo and olive, shearling-lined coats, athletic bomber jackets and neutral-hued windbreakers. It was all very Kanye. There was even a sleeveless knit tank with a plunging neckline, which would be perfect for Kanye for those days when he and his wife feel like matching cleavage is the move. Cool carryalls, duffel bags and backpacks rounded out the offering.

Kim was (naturally) dressed in a head-to-toe look from the collection — including the body stocking, making us all feel a tad bit awkward to see her in flesh-toned leggings and similarly shaded knickers. But when you’re as beautiful as she is, you can make such regalia look good.

Kanye started the show with a monologue, “There’s a series of, you know, people who like writing negative comments. They want to joke around and say, ‘Why is he still trying?’” Because you love to create, Kanye, come on, we know this one already. “I’m here to crack the pavement and make new grounds, you know, sonically and society, culturally.”

If that means body stockings are about to become chic, then consider the pavement cracked. Take a peek below at a few images from the show.
