Kanye West Is Finally Getting the Credit He’s Always Wanted

Kanye West has been very vocal about not getting the things he wants on account of being too famous, but at least he can go to bed tonight knowing that fame has not interfered with getting a degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In fact, considering he was never an actual student there, it might even have helped him.

During a recent lecture at Oxford University, Kanye said he wished he’d attended SAIC. After hearing his comments, the school is granting him an honorary doctorate degree, thanks to all the work he’s done…existing as a cultural influencer, we guess. “Influential individuals earned this distinguished award through their work, which is always imaginative and aesthetically rich, and sometimes provocative and controversial, shifting the cultural landscape in significant ways,” Dean of Faculty and Vice President of Academic Administration Lisa Wainwright wrote in a letter to the SAIC community explaining why West is getting the honor.

And it’s not just prestigious schools giving Kanye the credit he’s been yearning for these past few years. It looks like fashion’s inner circle is starting to be kinder to Yeezy, thanks to his relentless courtship of fashion bigwigs and his fairly well-received Adidas show. WWD chronicles Kanye’s efforts towards getting fashion people to like him, likening it to him rushing a fraternity. “There’s something endearing about an outsider who so badly wants to be invited in that’s won over designers,” Erik Maza writes.

Indeed.

So, is the way into the fashion industry as simple as kissing as much ass as possible and expressing a keen interest in fashion? That, and learning to humble oneself – something that has been difficult for Kanye – seems to be the ticket. Looks like the young padawan is finally learning.
