Pia Miller Says Transitioning from Model to Actress ‘Takes a Lot of Work’

Chilean-born Australian fashion model and actress Pia Miller says the transition from model to actress hasn’t been an easy path to travel. Catching up with the stunner on the red carpet at the Mad Max: Fury Road premiere in Sydney last week, Pia shed a little light on what it’s really like to be a model slashie.

The 31-year-old mother, who has recently joined the cast of Home and Away as policewoman Katrina Chapman, tells theFashionSpot that the move from model to actress has definitely been an “interesting one”. As we’ve seen in the past, not every model who can strut down the catwalk has the acting chops to support a career change like this. “I think that particular transition from model to actor, it takes a lot of work,” she explains.

After winning Dolly magazine’s annual modelling competition in 1998, just one year after world-famous supermodel Miranda Kerr, Pia travelled the world as a successful fashion model before taking acting and voice lessons in 2009 in the hopes of making the leap from editorial spreads to the screen.

Speaking of the differences between the two professions, she says, “You’ve got to strip back a lot of layers. Coming from a modelling background you’re constantly aware of what you look like and of your aesthetic.”

She continues, “With this kind of work it’s nice to let that go and go inward, and work out what you’re feeling and what you want.”

We’ve got to admit, Pia is definitely the hottest officer to grace our screens since Esther Anderson as Charlie Buckton. But, just like Esther, these Home and Away officers are so much more than just pretty faces.
