Iconic shoe designer Manolo Blahnik just announced that he is set to launch a standalone handbag collection. Talking to WWD about the sparkly evening bags, the designer said, “Every woman needs a jewel—something very special and beautiful. There is nothing more stunning than a feminine hand holding a gemlike object.” But just like his sought-after shoes, the bags do not come cheap. Prices will range from $1,725 to $1,925.
“I am always inspired by beautiful women from the past and present, so when I thought about doing a collection of bags, I was sure they were going to be evening bags for the women of today,” he told Vogue UK in a recent interview. “I love ornaments in my shoes so why not add these to the bags too? These bags are an extension of some of the shoe styles I really like as I wanted to keep the connection between the shoes and bags.”
Chief executive officer Kristina Blahnik relayed, “It’s the first time we’ve focused the bags into a capsule collection with its own story.” With Spring 2016 handbag designs already in the works, expect to see them grace the runway at Fashion Week in fall.
And it’s not Blahnik’s first handbag rodeo. The brand sold bags back in the 80s and 90s, and currently sells the Gothisi Crystal-Buckle Satin Clutch Bag design below:
Expect to see many more gorgeous satin and crepe de chine colored bags with sparkly Swarovski buckles, following in the same footsteps as the shoes. The bejeweled range will be available end of July at Manolo Blahnik’s flagship store on Old Church Street in London, and at the 31 West 54th Street store in New York City. They will also be sold at stores such as Harrods, Liberty and Brown Thomas, and in stores in Italy, Germany and Sweden.
