Collette Dinnigan Launches Retrospective ‘Unlaced’ Exhibition in Sydney

A household name in the Australian fashion industry, Collette Dinnigan is celebrating the incredible success of her 25-year career with a public exhibition at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.

The showcase was curated in collaboration with Collette herself and features over 100 of her signature lace and embellished garments, including lingerie, bridalwear, ready-to-wear and resort, as well as never-before-seen objects and accessories from her personal archive.

“Being involved in this exciting project has enabled the dynamic world of fashion and the disciplined curation of museums to fuse together,” Collette said in a news release. “I am honoured to showcase my collections, collaborating with the best designers and museum curators, bringing audiences “behind the scenes” into the world of Collette Dinnigan.”

Celebrity outfits can also be spotted throughout the exhibition, including those worn by Angelina Jolie, Taylor Swift, Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman.

Given that Collette started what would become an internationally recognised career in Sydney, the NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres, thinks that bringing it back to where it started couldn’t be more poetic.

“From opening her first boutique in Sydney’s Paddington fashion precinct, Collette Dinnigan has gone on to worldwide acclaim and it’s fitting that a retrospective of her stellar career be held here in Sydney where it all began,” he said.

The exhibition will be open to the public from September 5, 2015, through to August 28, 2016 from Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences’ ticketing office.
