Chris Hemsworth Gets Weird In New Short Film for Vanity Fair

Chris Hemsworth

It turns out Chris Hemsworth’s sandy-haired surfer boy character wasn’t just a facade for the sake of Summer Bay, with the actor recalling the Australian surf culture his family grew up around in a new, slightly weird, short film for Vanity Fair.

Acting as a behind the scenes film for his cover shoot with the glossy, both shot by Bruce Weber, the video shows Chris laying boyishly in an unmade bed with several kittens, as you do, revealing special childhood memories including surfing legends Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater.

Unearthing his not-so-Hollywood side, the Thor actor admitted that he once shed real tears when he heard hearing that his dad had actually been out surfing with Kelly Slater. “I just started crying,” he laughed, noting that he missed out on the fun because he had “theatre studies practice”.

Apparently Kelly and Chris are now good friends, though, because dreams really do come true, however, the Aussie actor claimed he never told Kelly the story. Ah, we’re afraid it’s out in the open now, Chris.

He also recalled a time surfing with ELLE cover star Aussie Mick Fanning, who is world-famous for battling off a shark during a surfing tournament, saying, “We were surfing with Mick Fanning at my place and he was saying how sharky the water felt and we said, ‘Oh no, it’s great. It keeps the crowds away.” Cue awkward pause, laugh and “Never again,” followed by Chris upping the kitten weirdness with a shark costume.

Watch it all for yourself in the video below, and, please hold your fan-girl applause until the very end.
