Jean Paul Gaultier is the latest fashion figurehead to join the Designers for Target program, with the Frenchman churning out a collection for the Aussie department store early next year.
The range will include women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and homewares, combining Jean Paul Gaultier’s unique and quirky style with relaxed clothing, perfect for the Aussie shopper.
“Every time I’ve been to Australia I’ve been impressed by the laid-back, unstuffy confidence that Australians display with their fashion – it resonates with my design philosophy and has such synergy with my own approach to fashion and style,” Jean Paul said in a news release.
The esteemed designer explained that the collaboration came about after his recent visit to Melbourne for the exhibition “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From Sidewalk to Catwalk”. He explained, “There was somebody from Target Australia that came to the exhibition and proposed the project.”
Pieces will start at just $10, with the collection comprising of 100 products in wearable styles. “I have looked for inspiration in many ways but one of the constants is the street and what people are wearing,” Jean Paul explained.
“I believe in fashion that you can wear every-day, not just on a catwalk — which is really what Target stands for at its core — which made it the right retail partner for me to choose to bring this range to market in Australia.”
The Jean Paul Gaultier x Target collection will be available online and in selected Target stores across Australia early next year. Just quietly, we’re already pondering who might be the face of this collection, with Jean Paul’s Aussie muses spanning from Kylie Minogue to Alexandra Agoston and Adreja Pejic, plus a recent interest in Australia’s Next Top Model Cycle 9 winner, Brittany Beattie.
