Leslie Jones Slayed at the Ghostbusters Premiere, Thanks to Christian Siriano

In a happy ending to rival Dana and Louis being freed from their possessor and the island of Manhattan being covered in marshmallow, on Saturday night, badass comedian Leslie Jones stole the show at Ghostbusters’ Los Angeles premiere. Although all the leading ladies looked fabulous, it was the drama surrounding Jones’ look that made her ensemble all the more striking.

The world premiere was a blast! #Ghostbusters, in theaters this Friday.

For those who missed the inciting incident, a few weeks ago, Jones — who co-stars in the remake alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon — took to Twitter to vent her frustration at not being able to find a designer to dress her for the (thematically) green carpet. Her tweet elicited an immediate response from Christian Siriano, who volunteered to put his very practiced hands to the task of dressing the curvy Saturday Night Live regular.

Wow @csiriano

Some daring stylists protested that Jones should have anticipated her quandary and planned ahead, knowing that designers only keep sample sizes on hand to loan out to starlets — custom gowns take months of work and a lot of money to realize and are usually only bestowed upon presenters and A-list celebs. The Internet (and Barbie Ferreira) was not impressed with this justification. After all, why should women above a size zero have to pander to outdated fashion norms?

While we don’t see the fashion industry revising standard sample sizes anytime soon, as long as designers like Siriano are around, women of all sizes won’t want for fabulous red carpet looks. At the premiere, Jones stunned in an Old Hollywood, off-the-shoulder-style cherry red gown complete with an Angelina-worthy slit. Stylist Brian McPhatter complemented Siriano’s handiwork with a silvery Dannijo statement necklace and Chris Aire earrings.
