Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton Ads Have Already Become ‘Boring’ (Forum Buzz)

Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2014 advertising campaign must have served the French fashion house well because we’re seeing the same concept for the new Spring 2015 campaign. Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber and Juergen Teller all came back to lens images for the campaign entitled “Series 2.” Nicolas Ghesquière used his Instagram account to release the first campaign image, which features Freja Beha Erichsen (also from last season) standing before a floor-length window overlooking Central Park in New York City. Freja appears effortless wearing a detailed white dress, a pair of knee-high leather boots and holding one of the coveted bags Ghesquière designed for his second collection at Louis Vuitton. Jennifer Connelly also stars in the campaign and we’re beginning to wonder which Ghesquière favorite is about to show up next.

“The same three photographers again? It will get boring at some point,” slammed Melancholybaby, unimpressed by the fact that the same concept has trickled into the latest ads.

“Not a fan of either photographer, and though Weber’s photos were gorgeous last season I’m not sure if I want to see more of it. At least I hope there will be some changes in the cast (they must keep Liya though),” added anlabe32.

Also left underwhelmed was gazebo, who wrote, “Looks like last season. It’s the trend now to keep ads very similar and tight (Saint Laurent, Dior) especially at the first few seasons, to create a signature look. Yet it gets boring.”

Creative wasn’t having any of it, either: “NG for LV already got old. I feel like I’ve been seeing the same things like… forever. Good that they are trying to build an identity, but I’m bored already.”

Although not everyone was left so disappointed. “Is always a pleasure to see Freja, even if she looks so beautiful, just like this. I love it,” raved thatsfierce, clearly motivated by Freja’s return.

Target Under Fire for Whitewashing ‘Annie’ In-Store Ads

Target finds itself in a pickle with angry customers accusing the retailer of racial discrimination. Bear, Delaware, customer L’Sean Rinique Shelton launched a petition against Target over its in-store Annie advertisements when she noticed that the ads for the movie’s branded clothing line featured a young white model fronting the campaign as opposed to Quvenzhané Wallis, who stars as the main character in the film. Shelton sees the act as another snub against young black girls.

“Why do you feel that we are not enough to portray our beautiful images on your advertisements,” the petition reads. “If it is a multi-cultural issue, surely you could use her co-stars on some ads and Quvenzhané Wallis or another African American girl on others.”

So far, Shelton’s petition is over 3,000 supporters strong, just a little over 1,600 away from reaching her goal for signatures. Shelton calls the ads a “misleading depiction of the movie,” and notes that in light of the current volatile racial climate in America, this sort of misstep is the last thing anyone needs. Perez Hilton mentions that though the in-store ads feature a white model, the line’s lookbook does include a few black girls.

“We demand that you immediately pull those misleading ads and give Quvenzhané Wallis her due respect as well as other little girls who aspire to be like her. Being African American is not ugly, it is not bad and we are sellable! These grossly misleading ads are adding to the divide and does not give young African American girls aspiring to become actors anything to be optimistic about.”

Supporters of Shelton’s campaign call the ads “damaging to the psyche” and “outright blatant disregard” to Quvenzhané’s role in the film. So far, Target has not commented.

What’s Up with Alessandra Ambrosio’s Eyes on Vogue Brazil’s January Cover? (Forum Buzz)

Alessandra Ambrosio and Vogue Brazil go together like Kate Moss and U.K. Vogue. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Alessandra fronts the January 2015 issue of the Brazilian fashion bible. At least Vogue Brazil kicks off 2015 with a model on its front cover, right? Alessandra was photographed on the tranquil beaches of St Barth. As the sweeping blue ocean plays background to the cover shot, the 33-year-old mother of two gives us good face while wearing a sweater from Louis Vuitton, posing with her arms slung above her head and gazing down Patrick Demarchelier’s lens.

But something is bothering quite a few of our forum members. “She looks great here. The puffy eyes immediately puts me off, but the breeziness of the shot makes it better. Not too sure about the layout, some parts could be bolder, and maybe ditch the red?” suggested Benn98, picking up on both the good and bad points.

“I love the layout, the coordination between the red of the masthead matching her top and the lipstick is perfect in my opinion. Her pose and hair are on point. The styling is kinda meh, but I like the top because of the color coordination. I agree the eyes are a little on the puffy side and as always I wish her mouth were a little more closed (but it works here for me with the beach setting). Lastly, congrats on Ale’s 10th Vogue cover!” shared marsnoop2.

KateTheGreatest also provided a comment about Alessandra’s eyes: “Her eyes always bother me and they look even more weird on this cover.”

Sharing the same sentiments was DutchHomme, who posted, “This cover does nothing for me & she looks cross-eyed.”

“What’s wrong with her eyes? And the styling is awful,” questioned narcyza.

Has Vogue been playing with Alessandra’s face on this cover? Await the content of the issue and share your opinion with us inside the thread here.

And 2014’s Highest Grossing Actor Is…

Image: WENN

She might have been paid less than her male costars in American Hustle, but Jennifer Lawrence is far from broke. According to Forbes magazine, Lawrence, or at least her movies, are actually raking in the dough and she’s finishing out 2014 as Hollywood’s highest grossing actor. Her films, like Hunger Games: Mockingjay and X-Men: Days of Future Past, have grossed more than $1.4 billion. Everyone’s favorite new lovable action star Chris Pratt came in second at $1.2 billion, thanks to the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie.

Scarlett Johansson, Mark Wahlberg and Chris Evans finished out the top five. Many of the films that propelled these actors to the top were of the action genre, so aspiring thespians, take note – if you want to be in a movie that pulls in top dollar, you might want to brush up on your Lara Croft moves and choreographed hand-to-hand combat.

Miley Cyrus Shows Support for #FreeTheNipple with Topless Instagram Photo

By now, we know Miley Cyrus doesn’t really need an excuse to take off her clothes, but this time around she’s disrobing for a good cause. Miley has been a champion of the #FreeTheNipple movement and she took her allegiance to new heights over the holidays when she posted a topless photo of herself with her nipples exposed in solidarity for the cause. The photo was very elegantly captioned, “Some lame ass deff gonna flag dat shit, but fuckk it #practicewhatchupreach #FreeTheNipple #freedatshit.” It was, naturally, taken down soon after it was posted.

Instagram’s policy against exposed women’s nipples has been a hot topic during 2014, which came to a head when Rihanna was booted from the social media outlet for having posted pictures from her Lui magazine cover shoot. Miley littered her Instagram with a deluge of images referencing the movement. (more…)
