Did Patrick Demarchelier Really Shoot This ‘Lazy’ Vogue Russia Cover? (Forum Buzz)

Vogue Russia has been receiving a lot of flack from forum members lately for its unremarkable covers. Unfortunately, the magazine’s February issue isn’t exactly helping matters. A magazine like Vogue usually screams glamour, but there’s a lack of pizzazz on this one, even with Saskia de Brauw sporting a pair of unusual embellished jeans. Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, we can’t understand how such a boring concept was executed.

Vogue Russia February 2015 Saskia de Brauw

“The covers are getting worse and worse from VR. To think I once adored this edition! This image is an outtake, or a light test shot at best, only a fool would grant it worthy of publishing! Not even A-list photographers can elevate when working for them. But I digress!” expressed Miss Dalloway as soon as the cover was posted.

“Lazy. Saskia deserves better,” added Nepenthes.

Srdjan was also left underwhelmed: “Gotta agree with you guys. I used to like Russian Vogue covers, they had some aesthetics I admired, but now – I don’t even bother to check out the covers sometimes.”

GlamorousBoy described the cover as “very ordinary.” Ouch!

“I hate those jeans, however I still think Saskia looks great,” shared fashionlover2001.

“It’s a surprising choice for Vogue Russia. I’m happy to see a MODEL. I’m sick of seeing models-celebs all the time. Saskia looks really good. Everything’s working here. I like the blue layout and not too much text. Much better than [a] month ago!” commented narcyza, whose post stuck out from the rest.

Do you think Vogue Russia even tried this month? Stay tuned for the issue’s content and add your own two cents here.

J.W.Anderson Launches Pre Fall 2015 Collection on Instagram

In recent years, Instagram has taken the fashion world by storm, making once exclusive runway shows and collections more accessible to the public with the search of a hashtag. As brands and designers continue to incorporate social media into their marketing efforts, they’re devising new and exciting ways to use the platform. Yesterday, J.W.Anderson did just that and exclusively launched his entire Pre-Fall 2015 collection on Instagram. Think of it as a virtual runway, if you will.

As the photos streamed, online fans went crazy for the retro-infused line which was awash with 60s and 70s trend inspirations. Flared trousers reigned supreme, revealing just a sneaky peek of boots underneath as the colour palette popped and collars came up high. More is definitely more as oversized details are key with features like cuffs appearing stylishly excessive.  It’s certainly a collection for the vintage lover with lots of on-point elements aligning with the current fashion mood. Peter Lindbergh Returns to Photograph Donna Karan’s Ad Campaign (Forum Buzz)

Many of the campaigns this season are questionable and obvious, so we were quite pleased to see the latest from Donna Karan. The American fashion designer tapped model Andreea Diaconu to showcase her Spring 2015 collection and enlisted Peter Lindbergh to make a triumphant return (his last campaign for the brand was back in 2007 with Hilary Rhoda). We think the German photographer is the perfect choice, so it should come as no surprise that we’re head over heels for everything, from the casting to the artsy backdrop.

Forum members were quick to descend on the thread when the campaign first surfaced. “This is amazing! Andreea never disappoints me!” praised john2elmejor, getting us off to a positive start.

“The backdrop is my favorite thing about it, but the whole thing looks nice. Andreea is a great choice for DK,” MyNameIs complimented.

Also full of praise was Nepenthes, who simply described the campaign as “Stellar!” inside the thread. “Flawless” was the word burbuja8910 used in regards to the campaign. It’s safe to say that we have a handful of admirers here!

Nymphaea later added: “Gorgeous concept!”

“She looks great imo. I wish the dress didn’t blend so much with the background but still, I want to see more!” shared an optimistic kokobombon, who was probably pleased when the full campaign surfaced inside the thread earlier today.

Ellen DeGeneres Wore a Look from Her E.D. Brand at Last Night’s People’s Choice Awards

Last night, Ellen DeGeneres took a seat on the People’s Choice Awards red carpet as she waited for her wife, Portia de Rossi, to take solo “fashion shots” for the press. “I’m asked to move aside because I don’t put the effort into my clothes, apparently,” she told E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic. But we’re going to come out and say that’s not entirely the truth, especially considering what Ellen was wearing.

The TV host paired a crisp white Saint Laurent button down with a cream colored bomber jacket and trousers from her forthcoming E.D. lifestyle brand. We’d say pairing high and low is a total fashion girl move, even if Ellen doesn’t consider herself one.

The comedienne says E.D.’s clothing line will launch in May, for which we will be patiently waiting.

Essence Magazine Does a Cover Blackout for February Issue

February’s Essence magazine cover star isn’t a starlet or a singer. Instead, it’s a message. A powerful and timely one: “Black Lives Matter.”

This is the first time Essence has not published an image on its cover and Editor-in-Chief Vanessa K. De Luca says she and her staff wanted to highlight what they call a modern-day civil rights movement with a “cover blackout.” It’s a pretty ballsy move, considering cover images are so much of what drives magazine sales. “Pictures are powerful, but so are words,” De Luca writes.

The issue is filled with essays from leading thinkers like New York City’s first lady Chirlane McCray, Angela Davis and Melissa Harris-Perry, who ponder what’s next for black Americans in the middle of this big hurdle.

Last year, Essence paid tribute to Trayvon Martin, one of several slain unarmed black minors, with four covers for its September 2013 issue. The issue featured Martin’s family as well as black celebrities (Boris Kodjoe, Spike Lee and Dwyane Wade) with their sons, posing in hoodies.

You can find the February 2015 issue of Essence on newsstands.
