Giorgio Armani Extends Milan Fashion Week One More Day

Fashion Month calendar be damned! Giorgio Armani is not going to slap together his fashion show just because someone wants to cut Milan Fashion Week a day short. Last season, Milan Fashion Week was only five days as opposed to the six-day run it’s enjoyed during past seasons. Armani’s move forces Milan to extend its Fashion Week back to the original six days, which is making the Italian Fashion Chamber quite happy.

“I want to personally thank Giorgio Armani who gave proof of great sensitivity and generosity towards the Italian fashion system,” Mario Boselli, president of the Italian Fashion Chamber, told WWD

Armani flipped in February when Anna Wintour failed to attend his show, leaving instead to move on to Paris. Armani complained that he was the only big designer to show on the last day, which is why editors were flocking to the French city. To make the most of the extended calendar, perhaps the Italian Fashion Chamber should consider scheduling another big-ticket designer on the last day to ensure that more people stick around.

Lips & Boys: Collection of 50 Shades of Lipstick by Tom Ford Launching Black Friday

“I like the idea of lipsticks named after boys. Why commit to one when you can have several?” says designer Tom Ford of his upcoming Lips & Boys collection. The collection of 50 miniature lipsticks will be available on November 28 (aka Black Friday) on for four days and at other online retailers on December 1 for Cyber Monday only. The collection will make a return to the e-commerce retailers and brick-and-mortar stores on December 26.

The Estée Lauder licensed brand will offer 10 shade ranges of the minaudière-friendly lipsticks, from nude browns, purple plums, bold metallics, girlish pinks and classic red. The highly pigmented shades Tom Ford Beauty is known for will include 36 new colors that will retail for $32 each. As to why Ford named these colors after men, he told WWD, “Obviously I’m not expecting a lot of men to wear the lipsticks, but I liked the concept. I love seeing a woman in a man’s suit. Why not have a lipstick named after a man?”

All the male names represent someone from Ford’s life, past and present. Tomas is his nephew, Rory is his best friend, Addison was his first crush and Alexander is his son (whom he and his husband call Jack — which a violet shade is named after).

What is interesting about this launch is that most of the buys for the collection will be digital. “It’s especially important for a product like this — it will appeal to a generation who does use social media and spends a lot of their time online,” said Ford to WWD. “And buying a lipstick online is less risky than buying a more expensive item that has to fit you. While it’s an investment for some, it’s the entry level to our brand, and so I think people are more willing to say, ‘I’ll take that’ online.” (more…)

Mica Arganaraz Winks for i-D’s Winter 2014 Cover (Forum Buzz)

After i-D released its Winter 2014 cover via its website earlier this week, our forum members immediately began to discuss the image. One-time Prada girl Mica Arganaraz was photographed by Willy Vanderperre for the front cover, sporting a messy updo tended to by hairstylist Duffy. Peter Philips applied thick, clumpy mascara to Mica’s face, while stylist Olivier Rizzo selected a Christian Dior dress for the Argentinian model to wear.

Members of our forums share mixed feelings toward i-D‘s latest cover. “Yeah it really is fresh. Mica looks great. The hair, makeup and styling complement each other. Willy is fantastic,” raved anlabe32, who got the thread off on a positive note.

“Their best cover in awhile, love that [she’s] wearing that Dior dress, hair and makeup perfect as well,” added a satisfied HeatherAnne.

“Mica looks really great here and the styling fits her perfectly!” wrote justaguy.

Also on board with the cover was TeeVanity: “It really is gorgeous.”

But the rest of us aren’t feeling it. “The hair looks like a rat’s nest,” stated littlekiki.

“Guess I’m in the minority here, but I hate the makeup and overall styling of the cover – same for the Dior dress. Many things come to mind looking at it, but ‘fresh’ isn’t one of them,” disapproved mistress_f.

Jean Paul Gaultier Teams with Eastpak for One Epic Backpack Collaboration

Eastpak has tapped the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier to help in the fight against AIDS. The brand asked Gaultier to put his own spin on one of its backpacks and the result is a convertible, wearable, all-in-one jacket/backpack combo.

The jacket and backpack are attached and can be worn as an all-in-one piece. But if you’re not into that sort of thing, you can roll up the jacket portion, stuff it into the bag and wear it as a backpack alone. The designer used three embroidered vintage Japanese bomber jackets to create the pieces, which will be auctioned off December 1 on World AIDS Day. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Designers Against AIDS.

Visit Eastpak’s website to participate in the auction (which starts in 16 days) and watch the video above to see how the bag was made.

Forum Members Weigh in on Cara Delevingne’s Latest Beauty Ad for YSL (Forum Buzz)

Cara Delevingne is no stranger to fronting beauty campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent. The British model was first tapped by the iconic French brand back in 2013 and the relationship is still going strong. This time around, we see the 22-year-old beauty looking as though she’s just stepped in from a night on the town, but still sporting a face full of flawless makeup (obviously, after using YSL’s innovative products). Cara’s new campaign image for YSL’s Spring 2015 collection surfaced on our forums earlier and forum members are deliberating over the brand’s efforts this season.

Ad Campaign YSL Beauty Spring 2015 Cara Delevingne

“That highlight on her forehead is the only thing I notice, then I slowly bring my eyes down to the horrible makeup,” shared an underwhelmed TREVOFASHIONISTO. This doesn’t look like it’s going to go down well.

Nymphaea agreed and commented, “A bit too much makeup on her face.”

Also not showing much enthusiasm toward the campaign was ParisFashionMuse, who thinks the advert is “a boring image.”

“This reminds me of the Friends episode where Ross has to do Rachel’s makeup. Who approved this? Yikes,” disapproved a horrified mistress_f.

GivenchyHomme had a strong opinion and wasn’t afraid to share it with us: “She looks like a child playing dress up. Whoever did this makeup should be fired.” Ouch!

Condé Nast Settles Intern Suit for 5.8 Million

W Magazine Oct 14 Noami Campbell

If you were a Condé Nast Intern in June of 2007 or later, you might soon be getting a check in the mail. The publishing giant has been battling a lawsuit filed by over 7,500 former interns who claim they were underpaid for the long hours they spent working at Conde Nast. Reuters reports that the publisher will now be sending payments of anywhere between $750 and $1,900 to the scorned members of their old low-cost labor force, young men and women who stayed in the office at all hours organizing samples or picking up snacks for editors.

Condé Nast nixed their internship program last year after getting slapped with the suit. CEO Chuck Townsend said in an email to staffers, “Settling the lawsuit is the right business decision for Condé Nast. It allows us to focus our time and resources on developing meaningful, new opportunities to support future up-and-coming talent.”
