Jourdan Dunn Discusses Racism in Modeling with Vogue UK, Irony Is Lost on No One

Tall, leggy, thin — Jourdan Dunn has a body plenty of women would kill for. But, as they say, the grass is always greener and Jourdan wasn’t always so happy with the way she looked. The Vogue U.K. cover star told the magazine that it is still sometimes strange to hear that people are envious of her physique. “I get uncomfortable when I read comments saying, ‘I wanna look like you, I wish I had your body,'” she said. “When I was growing up I didn’t love myself, or like what I saw in the mirror. Curves are celebrated in Caribbean culture, so I felt the odd one out. So my message is: be happy and love yourself.”

Jourdan also discusses the topic of racism in fashion. Ironic for a magazine that took 12 years to feature a black professional model solo on its cover. “It’s hard being a model regardless, and then being a black model. I have heard, ‘Oh, we haven’t shown any black models this season.’ So blasé… It’s messed up.” Indeed.

Maybe Vogue U.K. will take Jourdan’s words to heart and start thinking about featuring a more diverse group of women on its covers in 2015 and beyond.

Model to Watch: Anaïs Gallagher Fronts Accessorize’s Tween Campaign

Anaïs Gallagher, the 14-year-old daughter of rock star Noel Gallagher of Oasis and the beautiful Meg Matthews, is ready to give Cara Delevingne a run for her money. She has been signed to Select Model Management since the age of 11 and also knows a thing or two about promoting herself on social media. Counting Kate Moss’ and Sadie Frost’s daughters amongst her close friends, do we sniff a new London Brat Pack in the making?

We’re pretty sure that she’s destined for big things and with the announcement that she has landed Accessorize’s latest tween campaign, Anaïs is heading in the right direction. She’s not only the face of the new STAR collection but has also curated the shoot. (more…)

LVMH Is Taking Applications for Young Fashion Designers Prize

It’s back! Starting today, LVMH is accepting applications for its second-ever Prize for Young Fashion Designers. At stake is €300,000 and a yearlong mentorship courtesy of the luxury conglomerate. 

Last year’s winners include Hood by Air, Miuniku and Thomas Tait, who took home top honors out of 1200 applicants in the first go-round of the competition. Now, LVMH is looking for another crop of young designers, with the help of LVMH bigwigs Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Pierre-Yves Roussel, as well as creative directors Nicolas Ghesquière, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Phoebe Philo, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Raf Simons, Riccardo Tisci and Jonathan Anderson.

From today until February 8, up-and-coming designers under the age of 40 can apply if they’ve already showed and sold at least two ready-to-wear collections. Recent fashion school grads are also up for their own honor; three lucky, talented young bucks will win €10,000 and work on an LVMH design team for a year. Applications are open for this particular prize from today until May 3. 

At the start of March, 10 finalists will be chosen for the award and in June the winner will be announced. Head over to LVMH’s dedicated prize site to enter and learn more about the competition.

Malgosia Bela Scores Gucci’s Spring 2015 Campaign for the First Time (Forum Buzz)

Frida Giannini recently revealed that she’s parting ways with Gucci, but that didn’t stop the brand from releasing its new Spring 2015 advertising campaign. Gucci posted the campaign images via social networks and the images were quickly brought over to our forums for deliberation. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Malgosia Bela is the star of the ads, a first for the Polish beauty. The campaign is fairly straightforward with the clothes doing most of the talking (and rightly so, given the decline in Gucci’s sales).

But does the campaign speak to our forum members? “I love Mert & Marcus, but Gucci never looked more Zara meets Topshop than here… Even Malgosia does not save this. Looks like SS 2015 campaigns are going to be really boring,” wrote simondufromage, who doesn’t get us off on a positive note.

“Blahhhh, this long haired Gucci bohemian girl concept is stagnant. So excited for new changes at Gucci,” shared HeatherAnne.

Royal-Galliano certainly wasn’t feeling it as he exclaimed, “This freaked me out. She looks like a bad drug addict here.”

Although the rest of us disagree. “I never like Gucci ads but Malgosia makes this. She’s very strong and beautiful,” enthused gazebo.

“Stunning back to basic. Strong, beautiful with attitude on beautiful clothes. It’s a winner!” raved a more than enthusiastic elle_gb.

Also showing the campaign and the casting some love was Firefly216: “Malgosia has always been a Gucci girl to me! Lovely!”

Kylie Jenner Covers Cosmopolitan’s February Issue, Addresses Plastic Surgery Rumors

It seems the world can’t talk enough about Kylie Jenner’s ever-changing face, and Cosmopolitan is ready to give the people what they want. The youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner lot covers the magazine’s February issue, her grey-green dyed locks peeking from underneath her trademark dark brown tresses. In the accompanying interview, Jenner addresses (for what seems like the umpteenth time) whether or not she’s had work done.

“You guys have watched me grow up since I was 9,” she says. “My face is going to get different. Now, I know how to do my makeup, contour, and everything. I’m not against surgery. I’d never say no, but I don’t desire it right now.” So that settles it. Kylie’s face is a product of some good ol’ IRL Photoshop (makeup), though that could change in the future.

Watch: Victoria’s Secret Swim 2015 Trailer

While we’re still digesting all the food we ate over the holidays, Victoria’s Secret releases a video for its Swim 2015 collection. Women with incredible bodies rocking bikinis are usually the last thing we want to see after having spent our entire vacation eating, but this video is so darn sexy, we’re willing to forgive Victoria’s Secret for the questionable timing.

Lily Aldridge, Candice Swanepoel, Lais Ribeiro and more writhe and cast sexy glances on a Hawaiian beach, flicking their wet hair and making us regret finishing all that New Year’s Eve champagne by ourselves. Only a little.
