CALVIN KLEIN, LANCOME, AND COVER GIRL STICK WITH CELEBS

Just when the major European houses Gucci, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent announced that they would be returning to using models in their fashion ad campaigns, three major brands have announced that they will be working with celebrities on the beauty side.

Diane Kruger – who attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala with Calvin Klein’s creative head, Francisco Costa – will be the face of the brand’s latest fragrance, called Calvin Klein Beauty.  This perfume is slated to hit shelves in the fall. The starlet, who is almost always a winner when it comes to her red carpet fashions, will appear in both print and television advertising campaigns.  Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Mendes are just some of the other big names who have showed off their good looks in recent Calvin Klein campaigns.  Kruger has stunning good looks, but I don’t see her as a Calvin Klein kind of girl. Givenchy, yes. Chanel, yes.  But streamlined and modern CK?

On the other hand, Penelope Cruz, who has appeared on red carpets in memorable Calvin Klein looks, will follow in Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet’s footsteps as the latest Lancome spokesperson. Cruz, who was recently spotted shooting with Mario Testino on a balcony in Paris, will be the face of the beauty brand’s most successful fragrance, Trésor.

Also, Cover Girl has enlisted 20-year-old Taylor Swift, who has so many endorsement deals that I feel like I see her in a commercial every time I turn on my television.

The singer/songwriter has just finished shooting her first advertisement, and will be representing a new line of luxury products for Cover Girl that is slated to debut in January 2011. Taylor joins the ranks of Ellen DeGeneres, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Drew Barrymore, and Dania Ramirez as the newest face of the brand.
