Movie Muse: Midnight in Paris

I’m a Woody Allen junkie but even I’ll admit, while still being impressed at how prolific the writer/director/actor is, that his last few films were mostly forgettable duds. Midnight in Paris, Allen’s most recent feature, however, is nothing short of spectacular. From the breathtaking Parisian images that open the film, to the spot-on acting and innovative plot line, the flick is without a doubt a contender for one of the year’s best films. Don’t be fooled by the elusive trailer which, were I not an Allen fan, would not have convinced me to pay $13 to see this film.

Plot line and acting chops aside, fashion plays a huge part in the film and because time travel is involved – just roll with it and thank me when you see the film – we get eye candy from a variety of time periods. While the slew of 20s flapper dresses were my personal favorites, the most noteworthy fashions may well be attributed to Rachel McAdams, who does not time travel and therefore showed off a slew of looks perfect for 21st century summer travel.

Armed with a men’s button down-inspired dress or tunic-style top, a slender belt, a classic bag from the likes of Hermes or Chanel, a watch, and understated jewels, her character shows that one can be chic while still dressing comfortably in the summer heat. Get her look!
