Trendspotting: Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Other Celebs Wear Sheer Skirts

It’s clear that the sheer trend is here to stay for a while, but judging by celebs’ skirts lately, it’s moving south. Anne Hathaway, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and other celebs are leaving little to the imagination in their sheer maxi skirts, often wearing only granny panty-like shorts underneath. Going practically pantless is one way to beat the heat this summer, but check out these celeb looks first and decide whether you would dare to wear a sheer skirt.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley may be single-handedly (or -leggedly) responsible for starting the sheer skirt trend. On her round of appearances promoting Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, she appeared in a Gucci dress with a sheer skirt at the Moscow Film Festival, and showed even more leg in another by Michael Kors. Onstage the look seems more appropriate; Gucci is outfitting Florence Welch for her North American tour with Florence + The Machines, and the singer kicked it up in their teal chiffon scarf gown.

The often-demure Anne Hathaway turned heads in this black lace Valentino dress with a sheer skirt while heading to the designer’s haute couture show at Paris Fashion Week. At the BET Awards, Lil Wayne’s protégé Porcelain Black turned up the heat in a red sheer two-piece number that practically bared it all.

Kirsten Dunst and Blake Lively did the sheer skirt trend in a more conservative style, looking like adventurous brides in Chanel couture at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala and the premiere of The Green Lantern, respectively.
