This past week was full of high-profile events like the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and the start of the annual Venice Film Festival. Fashions ranged from the outrageous to sophisticated as stars continue to try to stand out from the pack on the red carpet. Fall-ready ensembles were trending while black appeared to be the go-to color.

I Don’t Know How She Does It may be the name of Sarah Jessica Parker‘s new film, but it could also be the tagline for her killer style. The actress wore this lace print wool-blend twill Prabal Gurung Fall 2011 dress with vivid red accents to the movie’s photocall over in Moscow. Salvatore Ferragamo‘s cap toe pumps rounded out the amazing look. Sarah also hit a fan event at the Manolo Blahnik boutique while she was in Moscow. Her tiered white strapless Chanel Resort 2012 dress had delicate ruby red floral appliqué detailing and was combined predictably with white Manolo Blahnik heels.

Diane Kruger was her usual stunning self at The Ides of March premiere during the 2011 Venice Film Festival. This nude Elie Saab Fall 2011 Couture gown was altered from the runway with straps being added to Diane’s red carpet version. Her Salvatore Ferragamo double platform peep-toes stayed mostly hidden beneath the hemline. It was a fire red Roberto Cavalli for Cindy Crawford at the same premiere in Venice. The one-shoulder embroidered gown was partnered with a matching minaudière and Chopard gems.

Marisa Tomei selected this Preen Fall 2011 look for the photocall for The Ides of March at the 2011 Venice Film Festival. That embellished black and silver top actually featured an orange panel on the back which coordinated seamlessly with her front slit wool crepe skirt and black Pollini T-strap sandals. Julianna Margulies looked ready to embrace fall at the Late Show with David Letterman. Her Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2011 outfit consisted of a black and yellow houndstooth full skirt combined with a semi-sheer black top and matching heels.

Fashion’s big night out this past week was the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Many celebs opted for shock value, but Zoe Saldana went for glam with this plunging tweed Barbara Bui Fall 2011 flashy black mini which was actually sent down the runway as a top. Her patterned snakeskin platforms were also by Barbara Bui, while those diamond earrings, bracelets, and diamond elephant ring were all courtesy of Lorraine Schwartz. There was also plenty of great fashion at In Touch Weekly’s 4th Annual Icons & Idols Celebration at Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. Ashley Tisdale‘s Tibi silk mini dress featured a fun floral print. Black suede cage booties and a Nicholai by Nicky Hilton Versailles ring polished off the ensemble which the young star also sported to the Candie’s VMA After Party.

Emma Roberts got in on the post-VMA party circuit attending House of Hype’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards After Party. The college-bound actress teamed a long sleeve black alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Goddess dress with an Anya Hindmarch clutch and cut out leather booties. In addition to red carpet events, flea markets are becoming the place to star gaze. Taylor Swift popped up at one in West Hollywood looking very bohemian in a Free People New Romantics All the Best embroidered linen open front dress. Accessories included a Deepa Gurnani headband, rope belt and embellished flats.
