Stella McCartney Makes a Splash in London

British designer Stella McCartney has shown her collections at Paris Fashion Week for a decade, but this season, after being named the creative director of the UK Olympic team’s competitive clothing for this summer’s London Games, she opted to put on a special show in London as well – underscore “special”. Among the countless celebrities that came out to support McCartney at a church in Mayfair were Rihanna, Kanye West, Twiggy, Kate Moss, Jamie Hince, Amber Valletta, Peter Blake, Zaha Hadid, Paul Whitehouse, Richard E Grant, Minnie Driver, and Shalom Harlow. It was a black tie event complete with a multi-course vegetarian dinner, a flash mob, a magic show, and dancing.

The flash mob, according to The Telegraph, included “Yasmin Le Bon and Amber Valetta dancing on tables and chairs, Shalom Harlow throwing diva-like shapes, Kate Moss smoking in the loos (whoops, turns out that wasn’t part of the official show) and around 16 other models taking part in a choreographed number that combined high energy with McCartney’s voluminous marbled dresses and those sexy black and white paneled columns that are rapidly becoming another of her trademarks.”

All of the models, it turns out, were dressed in pieces from a capsule collection McCartney has designed called Winter 2012 London Evening Collection. Images of the collection, which are said to be a preview of what will be shown in Paris, have yet to be released, but per an official press release, the collection is eveningwear-focused with an emphasize on “ease, masculine and feminine; glamour and hope.”
