Famed British designer and creative director for both his namesake line and Christian Dior – John Galliano — is set to receive the French Legion of Honour. Galliano’s name appeared on the list of beneficiaries released by the French government on January 1st of this year. The order was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to recognize unusual military and government service and it is divided into five grades: Grand-Croix (Grand Cross), Grand Officier (Grand Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Officier (Officer) and Chevalier (Knight). Galliano was awarded the Chevalier or Knight class.

Galliano will add this honor to his long list of accolades that include being named British Designer of the Year three times. The designer joins the likes of Sonia Rykiel, Azzedine Alaia, Yves Saint Laurent, style icon Ines de la Fressange and actress Kristin Scott Thomas, all of whom have been awarded the honour in the past.
