Get the Celeb Look: Summer Tweed

The easiest way to give the characteristically heavy fabric a lift for summer is to wear it in crisp white, like Alexa Chung did at Chanel’s Artists Dinner during the Tribeca Film Festival. Her frock was a seasonal spin on the classic Chanel tweed suit, cut in a flattering fit-and-flare silhouette and accessorized with kicky cap-toe flats. Emma Watson worked another tweed dress by the designer at the L.A. premiere of The Bling Ring. The sporty silhouette and zipper details gave the tweed an unexpected toughness. Lace accents are a surefire way to lighten up tweed for the summer, and Jessica Stam was a perfect example of this effect in a petal pink Oscar da la Renta dress at the Social Innovation Summit. Actress Haley Bennett also did the tweed-and-lace look at the Bling Ring premiere, wearing a spaghetti strap dress by Louis Vuitton in a lingerie-like style that we bet you never thought you’d see in tweed.

There’s nothing wrong with sticking to the classic gray, either. Hailee Steinfeld looked of-the-moment in a tweed Max Mara dress with black paneling. Her yellow-and-black strappy sandals kept the dress from looking like it belongs in an office in a way that basic black pumps might not have. Don’t be afraid to have fun by mixing tweeds, like the Three Floor dress that Ariel Winter wore to the City Year spring break event. Chloe Sevigny appeared at the Dolce & Gabbana flagship store opening in head-to-toe tweed, transitioning a micro mini with black chelsea boots and layering on a matching swingy coat.
