COMME DES GARCONS FOR H&M

Following the Tokyo release on the 8th, the highly anticipated Comme des Garcons/H&M collection will be hitting NYC stores in just over a week on November 13th. Designed for H&M by Rei Kawakubo, who founded Comme des Garcons in 1969, the collection will be available when stores open at 10am and, in New York, the collection will be available at four H&M outposts—H&M Fifth Avenue at 640 Fifth Avenue, H&M Penn Station at 435 Seventh Avenue, H&M 34th Street at 1328 Broadway and H&M Lexington at 731 Lexington Avenue (only eight stores in the U.S. will carry the collection).

Kawakubo has created a full men’s and women’s collection for H&M, complete with accessories and a unisex fragrance. When speaking of the collection, the designer has said that she “thought it would be an exciting event to work with H&M in order to sell Comme des Garçons clothes in places where they have never been sold and to appeal to people who may not yet understand Comme des Garçons. Marrying the commercial expertise of H&M with Comme des Garçons creation was a fascinating challenge.”

The collection’s color palette is black, white, midnight blue, red, and rose and the pieces are done in stretch wool, boiled wool, wool jersey, gabardine, cotton poplin, and merino wool. For women, there are a handful of jackets and skirts that play with deconstruction, along with a trench coat, shirts, slip-on canvas shoes, canvas lace-up shoes, wallets, and polka dot jersey pieces, and weekend bags.

For men, there are suits, shirts, a double-breasted belted trench coat, a boiled wool pea coat and trousers, hand-drawn polka dot T-shirts and shirts available in black, blue, grey, and white, along with lace-up and slip-on canvas shoes, a hat, and a scarf.
