At the heels of the announcement that Carmen Marc Valvo will not show at the Bryant Park tents this year and that both Fendi and Marni will not do men’s shows this year, comes the surprise announcement that Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens will be showing a men’s collection at Paris’ upcoming Men’s Fashion Week.
Though both Pugh and Owens have had male models pop-up in their shows before, this will be the first time each of them have a dedicated men’s show. Owens tells WWD that “the men’s collection has taken on a life of its own and needs to fulfill its destiny.” In addition to those two exciting newcomers, there will also be the Hugo collection which is designed, for the third time, by hot ticket Bruno Pieters.
Pugh will present in the Palais De Tokyo on January the 25th and he tells WWD that, “following the last show, the first show where I did not have any male models, lots of people commented on there not being any men’s wear in the collection….It felt like a good time to take on a new challenge and do a men’s wear collection. The collection will have all the staples of a men’s wear show, but obviously with my own slant. Looking at my sketches, we have a couple of coats titled ‘exploding dominators,’ if that tells you anything. Well, just come with an open mind.”
