The metals have it, but gold and silver are definitely the hottest colors for Spring 2009. Brushed, faded and yellow golds, shiny pewter and charcoal greys are all new versions of silver and gold seen on spring 2009 runways. Soft and slinky, cut out and constructed, designers are manipulating the trend into modern masterpieces. Dipped to create an hombre effect and used as a base with applied prints, pretty much anything goes this season as long as the color isn’t traditional.

Louis Vuitton mixes and matches with metallic reptile fabrics in a faded gold mini dress.

Proenza Schouler may have minored in architecture. A silver constructed jumpsuit resembling a Manhattan skyscraper cascaded down the runway detailed with black piping and leather straps.

Alexander McQueen keeps us clean in a micro-mini, futuristic dress in a textured, shiny grey.

There is nothing mellow about this yellow. Prada brightens up runways in a luminous gold, crinkled dress paired with matching accessories.

Versace adds a twist to a summer dress by creating it in a silver, reptile fabric for those Italian fashion fanatics.

Don’t forget the accessories…

Dries van Noten shows matte gold sunglasses and a shiny metallic chain necklace.

Ralph Lauren will re-hydrate you in style with a faded, gold safari canteen.

And if you can’t decide which color to choose, Givenchy offers a spiked heel in a gold and grey combo.
