TWO MORE DESIGNERS PULL OUT OF NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Both Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan have opted out of showing at Bryant Park, preferring to go the route of presentations to reveal their Fall/Winter 2009 collections.

However, a PR representative for both designers, Paul Wilmot, was adamant that their choice was not due to the current economic crisis, insisting the decision was prompted by a need for ‘change’, to ‘shake things up a bit.’

He stated, “Before, there was always that one degree of separation — the press and the buyers get a different sense of the clothing when they’re flying past you on the runway as opposed to being able to stand next to them and having the fashion designer talk about the clothes.”

He also remarked that he was unsure that their choice would even cause either designer to spend less, depending on the venue they choose to stage their presentation in.

Lhullier and Khan are joining Carmen Marc Valvo, Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Temperley London, who have also officially announced that they will not be showing at Bryant Park for the upcoming fashion week.
