NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR FOR HALSTON

The rumors have been endless as to who would take over the creative reigns at Halston after the departure of Marco Zanini.  Now the mystery has come to an end. It was just announced that the London-based designer Marios Schwab will be, as of July 1st, the house’s new creative director.

The 31-year-old designer is a graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (whose other graduates include the likes of John Galliano, Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, and Stella McCartney), and he launched his own namesake label in 2005, subsequently showing his work during London Fashion Week the following year.

Since being acquired by Hilco Consumer Capital and The Weinstein Co. in 2007, Halston has been looking for the right creative fit to re-launch the label as well as a line called the Halston Heritage collection, which will consist of reproductions of original Halston looks at contemporary price points.

The Halston Heritage collection is slated to launch in the Spring of 2010, and the first Schwab-designed Halston collection will debut in February for Fall 2010.

He added that while “Halston’s DNA is crucial to its future success, I very much wish to move the brand forward and make it relevant for today.”

In addition to his new role at Halston, Schwab will continue designing his eponymous line – which is sold at Barneys New York and Saks Fifth Avenue – and will relocate to New York.
