TREND: THE POOFY SKIRT

The bubble skirt is “oh, so over”, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t left its mark on the runway. In its place are a variety of cute, little poofy numbers attached to the sleekest of bodices. Hot looks off the runways include pleated construction, layering of fabrics, and haphazard gathering that creates a full skirt effect. Designers are keeping lengths short to show off a little of a woman’s natural figure while still getting their design intentions communicated.

A girlish twist to petite mini dresses was accentuated by “Alice in Wonderland” details in both Erin Fetherston and D&G designs.

A modern touch to an old military look was shown off in the Julian Louie show.

Rich jewel tones and intricate appliqué brought a sophisticated touch to a full, pleated skirt designed by Erdem.

Asymmetrical hemlines and 1980’s vibrant prints were a smash at Marc Jacobs, paired with muted greys and grown-up details.

Not quite a bubble? Oscar de la Renta pairs an imperfect lilac satin skirt with a perfectly pleated cherry red top.

The mini-poof trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, so make sure those legs are up to par so you can show off these beautiful new designs. But then, you can also just buy a pair of tights and just relax with a double mocha…
